Cross-Island Junction: A dead oak stands in the autumn fog as work advances in 1996 on the entrance ramp to Hilton Head Island's Cross-Island Parkway. I was always attracted to this oak, which still stands at the Gumtree Road intersection. After dropping my sons at school on a foggy morning, I had to park and make this picture from the road's edge. To me it shows nature and man's sculpturing, old and new, the story of the modern Lowcountry. 1996 (Cross-Island)
