An adult bald eagle - likely Blackie, the father - flies from his perch on a pine limb not far from his nest along the May River. Blackie's nesting spot along the river's headwaters has been preserved, with a buffer of forest, by the developers of Palmetto Bluff, which comprises the some five miles of the river's southern shore and 19,000 acres.
